Sew Much Comfort

Regardless of your political feelings about the war - every one of us sincerely appreciates the dedication of those American men and women serving in our armed forces. Sew Much Comfort is a non-profit, volunteer group of citizens that does great things to say thank you and offer a bit of help to our wounded military personnel.

Sew Much Comfort was started by a group of military wives who saw the discomfort experienced in military hospitals by those service men and women who had injuries that caused them to be unable to wear normal clothing. No one wants to have to spend weeks or months dressed in a hospital gown! However, many of the wounded have braces, casts, halo protections, prostheses etc that prevent an injured person from wearing normal clothing. The Sew Much Comfort group has hundreds of volunteer seamstresses who create modified clothing to meet these special needs. For example, regular t-shirts are slit and new closures are sewn in so that the t-shirts can be worn by those who cannot put a piece of clothing on over one’s head. Imagine how comforting it would be to have a comfy new t-shirt to wear for someone who has been forced to live in a hospital gown for months. Other clothing such as boxer shorts, regular shorts, and pants and even socks are converted with closures that offer flexibility.

The Sew Much Comfort folks then hand deliver these re-constructed items to the service men and women in the military hospitals. The recipients receive these items with tears in their eyes and deep appreciation in their hearts. They feel remembered and appreciated. Life becomes a bit easier for them - hence, the name - Sew Much Comfort.

We can't tell you how much your contribution to this great charity will be appreciated. There are about 200 seamstresses in our 6 state area - many are retired or wives and mothers of current military members, and many have limited incomes. They want to help and they are willing to contribute hundreds of hours doing the sewing, but we need to provide them the fabric and clothing. The donated items make it possible for them to participate without the out of pocket burden. Thank you again for your generosity!
